Colac ist eine Stadt im Süden des australischen Bundesstaats Victoria. Colac befindet sich etwa 150 Kilometer westlich von Melbourne. In der Nähe liegt der Lake Colac.

Geschichte

Die erste europäische Siedlung in dem Gebiet wurde 1837 von Hugh Murray errichtet. 1848 erfolgte die Gründung der Stadt unter dem Namen Lake Colac. Im selben Jahr wurde ein Postamt eröffnet. 1854 wurde der Name der Stadt zu Colac abgekürzt.

Klima

Wirtschaft & Verkehr

Colac hat heute etwa 12.000 Einwohner.cite-ref-abs-1-1[1] Wirtschaftlich bedeutsam ist neben der Landwirtschaft auch der Tourismus aufgrund der Nähe zum Great-Otway-Nationalpark und der Lage am Princes Highway.

Der Ort besitzt einen Bahnhof mit Verbindungen nach Warrnambool und Melbourne (Bahnhof Melbourne Southern Cross).

Teile der Fernsehserie Against the Wind wurden in Colac gedreht.
